Daily Harvest Food Subscription Service Recalls Its French Leek and Lentil Crumbles After Consumers Complain of Stomach Issues

Daily Harvest, a food subscription service, has asked the FDA to help figure out what went wrong with its French leek and lentil crumbles that allegedly left customers with “gastrointestinal issues.”
On Wednesday, the company said that they were working with experts “to get to the bottom of this.”

“All pathogen and toxicology results have come back negative so far, but we’re continuing to do extensive testing and will keep you updated,” the company said.

“We are doing everything we can, as quickly as we can to identify the root cause. Nothing matters more than the health and safety of our customers, and we deeply value the trust you put in us and our food every day.”

According to a spokesman for the company, the FDA “cannot confirm or deny if an investigation is planned or in progress.” However, they added that the agency “takes seriously reports of possible adulteration of a food that may also cause illnesses or injury.”

Following complaints from customers, Daily Harvest recalled the crumbles on Sunday. One Reddit user said their wife had liver damage and had to be hospitalized, while another claimed their mother had food poisoning. One person stated they had to have their gallbladder removed, while another said they had been given a hepatitis diagnosis.

Consumers have been advised to discard the products and were given a $10 credit in exchange.

Daily Harvest crumble products were introduced in April to provide consumers with “a people- and planet-friendly way to add more nourishing plant protein to their diets.”

“As consumers demand more plant-based options, we’ve seen an explosion of products that meet their call for sustainability, but they often miss the mark on health and nutrition,” founder and CEO Rachel Drori said. “With Crumbles, we’re delivering on both by harnessing the power of real plants. When grown right, fruits and vegetables hold the potential to help people live longer lives on a healthier planet.”
