A heartbreaking new detail has emerged in the death of Dallas Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland, as newly obtained police dispatch audio reveals he reportedly sent goodbye messages to loved ones before his passing.
TMZ Sports released the audio from late Wednesday night. In the recording, dispatchers shared information from Kneeland’s girlfriend, who told operators she received a message that caused immediate concern. She also reported that the 24-year-old defensive end was armed and had a history of mental health struggles, adding that he said he would “end it all.”
The dispatchers also noted that the NFL contacted Plano Police, stating the “subject is texting his family goodbye,” and that they were in communication with the Dallas Cowboys.
According to Frisco Police, Kneeland was involved in a traffic stop attempt just before 10:40 PM. After initially driving off, authorities later found his vehicle crashed along Dallas Parkway. Kneeland was not at the scene. His body was discovered around 1:30 AM with what police described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Dispatch audio added that he was located inside a portable toilet.
The Cowboys released a statement saying, “Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family.”
His agent,, Jonathan Perzley also shared, “I am shattered to confirm that my client and dearest friend Marshawn Kneeland passed away last night.”
