“Days of Our Lives” Is Headed to Peacock After 57-Year Run On Daytime TV

“Days of Our Lives” has found a new home on Peacock after being a broadcast television staple for 57 years.

NBC has been home to the long-running soap opera since its debut in 1965. The series has won 58 Emmy Awards and has become one of the most beloved soap operas. For this reason, moving it to Peacock is risky, considering that most viewers have enjoyed it for free on TV for over five decades. However, Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, says that most of the show’s audience has transitioned to streaming platforms.

“This move enables us to build the show’s loyal fanbase on streaming while simultaneously bolstering the network daytime offering with an urgent, live programming opportunity for partners and consumers,” Lazarus stated.

Peacock has already produced two spinoffs of the show dubbed “Beyond Salem.” Therefore, having the original daytime drama on the platform comes as no surprise to fans of its subsidiaries.

In recent years, daytime television has struggled under the pressures of streamers and younger viewers. DOOL currently has the lowest viewership of any daytime drama this season. “General Hospital,” “The Young and the Restless,” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” are now the only soap operas on broadcast TV.

“Days of Our Lives” will air on Peacock starting September 12th, with the show’s entire catalog already being on the platform.
