College Track Star Denita Jackson Accused of Fatally Stabbing Boyfriend Kevaughn Goldson After Finding Him With Roommate

A college track star is now facing a murder charge after a weekend dispute turned deadly inside her Jefferson City apartment.

Denita Jackson, a senior sprinter at Lincoln University, has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of her boyfriend, Kevaughn Goldson. Prosecutors in Cole County filed the charges on February 23. Jackson is being held without bond.

Goldson, 23, was also a senior and a member of the university’s men’s track and field team. Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, he was known on campus as a dedicated athlete. Jackson, who is from Berbice, Guyana, competed on the women’s team.

According to court documents, police responded after Jackson called 911 and reported that she had stabbed Goldson during a disturbance at her residence. When officers arrived, they found Goldson in the living room with stab wounds to his chest and back. He was first taken to a local emergency room, then airlifted to a hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He later died during surgery.

Investigators say Jackson admitted to the stabbing during an interview. She described their relationship as volatile and told police the confrontation began after she returned home and found Goldson in a bedroom with her roommate. Court records state the two were clothed when she entered the room.

Jackson told authorities that a fight broke out, and she claimed Goldson pinned her down and began choking her. She said she grabbed a knife from under the bed and stabbed him. After the incident, she called the police.

Lincoln University released a statement acknowledging the off-campus incident and offering counseling services to students and staff. No court date has been announced.
