Deon Cole mocked Nicki Minaj with a controversial “prayer” during the 57th NAACP Image Awards, turning what was meant to be a celebration into one of the night’s most talked-about moments.
Taking the stage on Saturday, the comedian didn’t hold back when it came to Nicki Minaj, delivering a mock invocation that went straight for the jugular. Cole stood before the audience and joked, “Dear Lord, we want you to bless our sister Nicki. Lord, we want you to bless our sister. Lord, we want to bless our sister Nicki. Lord, she’s been going through a lot lately. Lord, she hasn’t been herself. Lord, believe whatever’s in her ass is affecting her brain. Lord, believe whatever’s in her ass is affecting her brain. While the live crowd might have been laughing, the Barbz were immediately up in arms, and everyone knows they don’t play when it comes to the Queen of Rap. The fanbase flooded social media, calling the set blatant body shaming and even taking things a step further by digging up photos of Cole’s own mother.
At the same time, people are defending the host, arguing that comedy is a contact sport where no one is safe. They’re pointing out that the shade didn’t come out of nowhere, but follows a string of Minaj’s recent political rants, her MAGA support, and that Grammy meltdown.
As of now, Nicki hasn’t said a word. Whether she decides to stay quiet or hop on X late at night to clear the air remains to be seen. One thing is for certain, the Barbz are convinced that Deon Cole is going to feel her wrath sooner rather than later.
