Did Ciara’s “I Bet” Rip Off Usher’s “U Got It Bad?” Compare For Yourself

Recently Jermaine Dupri was asked about his thoughts on Marvin Gaye’s children suing Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams over “Blurred Lines.” According to Jermaine Dupri he says he totally gets it because he feels the same thing is happening with him now.  “Ciara’s new single (“I Bet”) is a complete rip-off of Usher’s ‘U Got It Bad,'” Dupri said. “I’m clear on what I made and I’m clear on how music influences people and I’m clear on chord changes and how people move things. … It might not be as evident as the ‘Blurred Lines’ situation, but I believe the same thing happened to me.”

Dupri says that both Usher and co-producer Brian Michael-Cox both noticed the similarities immediately. I hear a slight similarities also but you kind of have to tilt your head to the side and close one hear to get it. Nothing major. Literally, a couple of chords here, a small portion of the cadence there.  Then again, I also don’t think Marvin Gaye’s kids should have gotten $7.4 million for “Blurred Lines” but it wasn’t a copy either.

Jermaine Dupri says that he intends to contact Ciara about the song and seek proper credit for he, Usher and B. Cox. Doubt he’ll take it to court seeing as he’s surprised “Blurred Lines” even made it that far.

So ladies and gents, listen to “I Bet” and “U Got It Bad” for yourself. Did Ciara copy?
