Dipset’s First Lady Jha Jha Dead at 40, Leaving a Lasting Mark on Harlem Hip-Hop

The Dipset family has been dealt a massive blow following the news that Natoya Handy, better known as Jha Jha, has died.

At just 40 years old, the woman who famously held the title of “First Lady of Dipset” leaves behind a void in the heart of Harlem’s most iconic collective. The news has sparked an immediate wave of grief among those who followed her journey from the early 2000s to her more recent creative work.

Jha Jha was more than just a name on the roster; she was a true pioneer for women in a crew defined by its gritty, male-dominated energy.

She first caught the world’s attention with her appearance on “Diplomatic Immunity 2″ (2004) on the track “Get From Round Me,” standing tall alongside Cam’ron and Juelz Santana.

Her discography is filled with memorable moments that defined the ByrdGang and Diplomats era. Fans will remember her  verses on “Sometimes” from “More Than Music Vol. 2” and her collaboration with Jim Jones and Max B on “Spit Ya Game.” She also appeared on Jim Jones’ hit “What You Been Drankin’ On?” alongside Diddy and Paul Wall.

To many, she represented resilience, independence, and empowerment, becoming a role model for women in the industry who saw in her a reflection of strength and individuality.

Beyond the music, those who knew her personally say Natoya Handy was known for her genuine warmth, openness, and the deep connections she forged with those around her. While the details surrounding her death haven’t been made public, her impact on the culture is undeniable. She helped bridge the gap during a time when male voices dominated the genre, emerging with undeniable lyrical talent and a magnetic presence.

Her family is expected to share more about the memorial services soon. Until then, the hip-hop community continues to play her records and celebrate a woman who was truly one of one.
