Does Anybody Care About A “Bitch” Anymore?

In a recent Twitter rant my friend in my head, Kanye West, had an epiphany. It’s time to eliminate the word “BITCH” from our vocab. The lyrical mastermind behind such classic hits as “Gold Digger” and “Niggas In Paris” is taking a stand against the word that demeans so many women across the world.

“I usually never tweet questions but I struggle with this so here goes… Is the word BITCH acceptable?” Kanye began, “To be more specific, is it acceptable for a man to call a woman a bitch even if it’s endearing? Even typing it in question form it still feels harsh.”

I squinted at my iPhone screen thinking maybe I didn’t really read what I thought I did. Was Kanye hacked? The man behind “That’s My Bitch” couldn’t really be asking this, could he? Is he going to stop kicking bitches out like Pam too? So I read on.

“Has hip hop conditioned us to accept this word? Do we love this word as much as we love the word NIGGA in an endearing way? Correction, Here’s the age old question, would we refer to our mothers as bitches? Would’ we call our fathers niggers or better yet NIGGAS? If nigga is such a positive word, why do we feel so uncomfortable for white people to say it, even with a hall pass?”

This can’t be! He wants us to stop using the word “nigga” too?

“Is it ok to use bitch as long as we put BAD in front of it? Like you a BAD BITCH,” says the man who described his girlfriend as the “Perfect Bitch” in a song he released just a month ago. “Perhaps the words BITCH and NIGGA are now neither positive or negative. They are just potent and it depends on how the are used and by whom?”

You can imagine as I was reading all of this, I couldn’t help but question the meaning of life. How could Yeezy go from having a Bad Bitch Contest to realizing the word was morally wrong?

“I was recently questioned about the use of the word BITCH in my music and initially was offended by anyone questioning anything in my music. I will admit that I sometimes go back an omit cursing from my records. I like to use profanity as a tool and not a crutch. Stevie Wonder never had to use the word bitch to get his point across.”

Au contraire Kanye, Stevie Wonder’s “My Cherie Amour” translates to “My Bad Bitch” in French.

I guess I understand Kanye’s point but it kind of falls on deaf ears when a majority of the music he puts out has “Bitch” and “Nigga” in it. I mean, my favorite line off Watch The Throne was  “You know how many hot bitches I own?”

Well I counted how many hot bitches he owned. Below is a list of 20 songs where Kanye uses the word “Bitch”. Do you think he’ll stop performing them?

“Breathe In Breathe Out”

“Roses”

“Bring Me Down”

“Monster”

“So Appalled”
“Devil In A Dress”

“Hell Of A Life”

“Blame Game”

“Niggas In Paris”

“That’s My Bitch”

“Who Gon’ Stop Me”

“Why I Love You”

“Illest Mothaf** Alive”

“HAM”

“Joy”

“Theraflu/So Cold”

“Mercy”

“I Don’t Like”

“Perfect Bitch”

“Birthday Song”

On a serious note though, do we as women really care about the word “Bitch” anymore? Does putting the word “Bad” in front of it matter? What are your thoughts. In related news, check out a word from Lupe Fiasco “Bitch Bad”
