Don Cheadle revealed he and his longtime girlfriend, Bridgid Coulter, secretly wed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to The New York Post, the 56-year-old actor opened up about his secret nuptials to Wanda Sykes as she was guest hosting the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday. Sykes had seemingly been under the assumption the couple was already married.
“You texted me at the top of the year, I guess, and you told me that you just got married,” Sykes said to Cheadle. “And I was like, ‘Oh, damn, the pandemic got to Don and Bridgid.’”
“I was like, ‘What the hell happened, man?’” Sykes joked. “I think I just texted something back, like, ‘Hey, if you’re happy, I’m happy for you.’ … I was like, ‘Cheadle went Hollywood,’” the comedian explained.
Cheadle said he was initially confused by Sykes’ response, but after the comedian explained that she wasn’t aware he and his girlfriend weren’t already married, the “Iron Man” star said he could understand why she came to that conclusion.
Cheadle and his new bride may have just recently wed, but the two actors have been dating since 1992. The couple shares two now-adult daughters, Ayana, 26, and Imani, 25, and have worked together many times, including in “House of Lies,” “Rosewood,” and “Black Monday.”
