Donald Sterling Says He Will Not Pay The NBA’s $2.5 Million Fine

Donald Sterling has sent the league a letter saying that he will not be paying the $2.5 Million fine they handed down by commissioner Adam Silver. I sent Sallie Mae the same letter. Unfortunately, I still had to pay.

“We reject your demand for payment,” Sterling’s lawyer says in the letter to the NBA claiming “no punishment is warranted,” and Sterling’s “‘due process rights’ were violated by the league’s four-day investigation.” The lawyer’s final line in the letter says the matter “will be adjudicated” The deadline for Sterling to pay up passed earlier this week with no response from Sterling.

It could be possible that Sterling is moving forward with his attempts to sue the NBA. In the meantime, whether he complies or not, the league can still withhold the funds from his TV payout money. In other words, garnish his checks. As far as him remaining owner of the team, The NBA could force Sterling to sell his team if three-fourths of the other 29 owners agree with Silver’s recommendation.

The Clippers, who just ended their playoff run last night against Kevin Durant & the OKC Thunder, were in no mood to talk about Donald Sterling. When Chris Paul was asked he simply replied, “That’s the least of our worries right now is him. We just lost the damn series,” he said. “That’s the last thing on our mind. We gave him too much attention as it is.”
