The U.S. Treasury Department is considering putting Donald Trump’s face on a $1 coin as part of the upcoming 250th anniversary of America’s independence in 2026. Draft designs have already circulated, showing Trump’s profile on one side, and on the other, an image of him with his fist raised in front of an American flag with the words “FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT.”
But before anyone starts checking their wallets, this coin isn’t official yet. It’s only a draft proposal, and legal experts are already pointing out a major issue: U.S. law generally forbids using the likeness of living people on coins or currency.
Even if approved, the coin would likely be a commemorative collector’s item, not something you’d use at the corner store. These types of coins are minted in limited runs, sold at a premium, and rarely circulate like normal money.
So while Trump supporters may be excited at the thought of flipping a “Trump dollar,” it’s far from certain whether this idea will make it past legal review.
