Elon Musk is painting a radical picture of the future, one where jobs are no longer necessary and money may lose its value. Speaking at the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum, Musk offered a timeline of 10 to 20 years before this transformation begins.

“My prediction is that work will be optional,” Musk said. It’ll be like playing sports or a video game or something like that.
He compared the future of work to hobbies, noting that while it’s easier to buy vegetables from the store, some people still enjoy growing their own. Musk added, “That will be what work is like. Optional.”
He also hinted at a future where money could become obsolete, especially if artificial intelligence and robotics continue to progress.
“My guess is, if you go out long enough…money will stop being relevant at some point in the future.”
Musk noted there would still be limitations involving electricity and physical resources, but currency might not be one of them.
As Tesla develops its Optimus humanoid robot, Musk believes this tech could become the largest industry yet.
“AI and humanoid robots will actually eliminate poverty,” he said. “There is basically one way to make everyone wealthy, and that is AI and robotics.”
Musk shared the stage with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Saudi officials, discussing how rapidly evolving technology could reshape the global economy and everyday life.
