The Justice Department filed requests Friday in federal courts in New York and Florida to unseal transcripts from grand jury proceedings in the Jeffrey Epstein case. The move follows Trump’s public request for Attorney General Pam Bondi to release “any and all pertinent grand jury testimony.”
Prosecutors are seeking to unseal records from Epstein’s 2019 New York indictment and Ghislaine Maxwell’s 2021 conviction. However, final decisions rest with the judges presiding over each case. Federal rules generally require grand jury materials to stay sealed, but the DOJ said in its filing the release is warranted “as a matter of public interest.”
The department promised to redact “victim-related information and other personal identifying information.”
This push comes after a DOJ-FBI memo debunked rumors of a “client list,” stating Epstein died by suicide and no credible blackmail evidence was found. Critics, including Trump allies, voiced frustration. Influencer Laura Loomer called for Bondi’s firing, while House Speaker Mike Johnson said, “We should put everything out there.”
