Erykah Badu addressed rumors that she inspired Outkast’s hit “Ms. Jackson” during the Wednesday episode of “Popcast.”

When asked about her role as a muse, Badu clarified, “I don’t think ‘Ms. Jackson’ was actually about me. I don’t think so, but people say it.”

She added a humorous twist by suggesting the song could be about her mother, Kolleen Gipson.

“Well, she thinks it was about her. She’s got the bumper sticker and the airbrush T-shirt,” Badu joked. “Sorry, Ms. Jackson.”

Badu and André 3000, formerly of Outkast, share a son, Seven Sirius Benjamin, born in 1997. The couple split two years later but continued collaborating on music, including tracks like “Humble Mumble” and “Hello.”

Reflecting on her influence on others, Badu noted, “Any person that I’ve come in contact with, specifically the fathers of my amazing children, I think that they were on that already. That’s why we sympathetically vibrated together.”

She also expressed admiration for André 3000’s artistry during a recent “Drink Champs“ appearance.

“Black Thought, you know I got love. But I think I may be one of Andre 3000’s biggest fans outside of being family. Super inspiring,” she said.

Even though Badu doubts she inspired the song, her playful comments and respect for André 3000 highlight her continued impact on hip-hop and neo-soul culture.
