Fabuloso Recalls Over 4.9 Million Bottles Following Potential Risk of Bacteria Contamination

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled several Fabuloso cleaning products on Wednesday due to potential bacterial contamination.

Currently, there have been no reported incidents or injuries.

About 4.9 million bottles were recalled in the United States and 56,000 in Canada by the Colgate-Palmolive Company.  According to Fabuloso, 3.9 million bottles were never made available for purchase.

Several variations of the Fabuloso Multi-Purpose Cleaner that were manufactured between December 14 and January 23 and sold online, including on Amazon, as well as at well-known shops like Dollar General and Walmart, are included in the recall.

The impacted batches will have a manufacturing (lot) code where the first eight digits begin with 2348US78 through 2365US78 and 3001US78 through 3023US78.  Any manufacturing (lot) code containing an “MX” is not part of the recall and is safe to use.

The company suggests that consumers should check the codes provided in the recall notification to help identify the affected products, which consumers should stop using immediately.  Consumers are advised to toss the product in the trash while still in its original container.

According to Colgate-Palmolive, “a preservative was not added at the intended levels during manufacturing,” which would have encouraged the development of Pseudomonas bacteria.

The safety commission states that this bacteria is typically present in soil and water and can potentially cause life-threatening infections in those with compromised immune systems, those using external medical devices, and those with underlying lung diseases.

Consumers can request refunds or replacements from Colgate-Palmolive by sending a photo of the product’s UPC and lot codes.
