Consumers Beware: FDA Issues Highest Risk Alert After Cookie Dough Mix Up Exposes Peanut Danger

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has elevated a frozen cookie dough recall to its highest risk level after confirming a labeling error that could expose consumers to peanuts. U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that 308 cases of frozen cookie dough are now classified as a Class I recall. This designation is used when there is a strong risk that consuming a product could cause serious or life-threatening health effects.

The recall centers on “Bag Full of Cookies” White Chocolate Macadamia Nut frozen cookie dough produced by Gregory’s Foods of Eagan, Minnesota. The company first issued the recall in December after discovering that some packages may have been mistakenly filled with Monster Cookies dough, which contains peanuts that are not listed on the White Chocolate Macadamia Nut label.

According to federal officials, individuals with peanut allergies could face severe reactions if they consume the affected product. For those with serious allergies, even trace amounts of peanuts can trigger medical emergencies.

Shoppers can identify the difference by examining the dough through the clear window on the packaging. Monster Cookies dough includes visible chocolate chips and colorful candy-coated pieces. The White Chocolate Macadamia Nut dough does not contain those candy pieces.

Each recalled case includes six bags of frozen cookie dough with a best-by date of December 6, 2026. Regulators said the production mistake was limited to a single day.

The affected products were distributed to retail grocery stores in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Nebraska. As of the FDA’s latest update, no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported. Consumers who purchased the recalled cookie dough are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
