The Food and Drug Administration is sounding the alarm on certain imported nonstick cookware that may be leaching lead into food.
The warning, first issued in August, has now been updated with more brands and items to avoid. According to the FDA, tests revealed that some of these products, often sold online or through third-party sellers, release unsafe levels of lead and other toxic metals when heated.
Lead exposure is linked to serious health problems, including developmental delays in children, kidney damage, and high blood pressure in adults. What makes this particularly alarming is that families using these pans may not even realize their cookware is contaminating everyday meals.
The FDA is urging consumers to check the updated recall and warning list before buying or continuing to use nonstick cookware, especially if it comes from unknown or unverified brands. If you’ve purchased imported cookware recently. especially at steep discounts, it may be time to double-check whether it’s safe.
