Fetty Wap says one of the biggest checks of his life came with a lesson he didn’t see coming. Looking back on his early rise, the rapper opened up about giving away his first million dollars to someone he trusted, only for the relationship to disappear afterward.

During a recent appearance on “The Crew Has It,” Fetty broke down how the moment played out. “First million dollar check, had it in my hand, the one I gave it to, never speak again. I’ve never seen it yet. Yeah ain’t ever seeing it,” he said.
The decision wasn’t random. According to Fetty, the friend had been there before the fame, helping finance his early moves and supporting the grind that led to his breakout. So when the money finally came in, he treated it like a promise fulfilled.
“Like yeah, because that was my promise on him because he put all the money up for us to really get lit,” he explained.
Fetty recalled receiving the payout in two separate checks, each worth $500,000, and not thinking twice about handing them over. “It was two checks, $500,000 and $500,000… I’m looking at this shit and I’m like, [here],” he said. “And he’s like, ‘What you want off that?’ I’m like, ‘It’s yours, we good.’”
But while the money changed hands, the connection didn’t last. “I never seen it,” Fetty added, making it clear that both the money and the friendship were gone.
Even with that outcome, he isn’t holding onto resentment. Instead, he views it as part of the learning curve that came with sudden success and new money. “I didn’t have to do nothing but it’s just being loyal,” he said. “I don’t fault nobody… we both just ain’t really know too much.”
He also made it clear his mindset at the time was bigger than one check. “By the time we got that money, bro, we was good. I knew that million was gonna come again regardless,” he said. “I ain’t think about it like that… I keep my word. If I say I’ma do something, I’ma do it.”
