Fetty Wap Pleads Guilty to Federal Drug Charges, Faces 5-Year Mandatory Minimum Sentence

Rapper Fetty Wap pleaded guilty Monday in New York court after being indicted last year for allegedly conspiring to distribute heroin and fentanyl on Long Island.

The 30-year-old, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, now faces a five-year mandatory minimum sentence and remains in custody after his bond was revoked two weeks ago for brandishing a gun while threatening to kill a man over Facetime.

The Paterson, NJ native and five others were arrested in October 2021 at the Rolling Loud Music Festival in New York on the drug trafficking conspiracy charge.

“As alleged, the defendants transported, distributed and sold more than 100 kilograms of deadly and addictive drugs, including heroin and fentanyl, on Long Island, deliberately contributing to the opioid epidemic that has devastated our communities and taken too many lives,” U.S. attorney Breon Peace said in a statement last year while announcing the charges.

The rapper initially pleaded not guilty and was released on a $500,000 bond on Nov. 5, 2021, but was taken back into custody on August 8 this year after authorities were alerted of the Facetime incident.

The FBI obtained a video recording from the December 2021 FaceTime showing Fetty “holding a gun and pointing it towards John Doe,” according to an affidavit.

“The defendant then says to John Doe’ Imma kill you and everybody you with,’ which he then repeats one more time. The defendant then continues to threaten John Doe, saying ‘I’m gonna kill you,’ a threat which he repeats several more times throughout the video call,” the affidavit read.

A sentencing date has not been set.
