Flau’jae Johnson, one of LSU’s most recognizable athletes, is pushing back after Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry called on LSU to build a statue honoring conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk.

In a video posted to social media, Landry urged LSU to celebrate Kirk’s “legacy” and “warrior spirit for free speech.” The suggestion immediately stirred debate online, especially among LSU students and fans who questioned the governor’s involvement in university affairs.
Flau’jae, known for using her platform to speak on social issues, kept her first response short and simple: replying to Landry’s post with a single “????,” signaling disbelief.

Later, when a fan commented that while they liked Kirk, the idea of a statue was “stupid” and that Landry should “stay out of LSU business,” Flau’jae jumped in to clarify her stance even further.
“For the sake of clarity,” she wrote, “if you align yourself with or endorse his racist rhetoric and discriminatory views toward people of color, I respectfully ask that you utilize the unfollow option at the top right of my profile.”

Her statement quickly gained traction across social media, with many praising her for drawing a line and standing by her principles.
Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, is a polarizing figure who has faced criticism for his comments on race, gender, and education. While MAGA views him as a defender of free speech, others see his messaging as divisive and racist.
