Florida Court Decides Pregnant Teen Isn’t ‘Mature’ Enough To Decide If She Wants An Aborition

A Florida court says a young teen girl is not “mature” enough to decide if she wants an abortion.

She’s not “mature” enough to decide if she wants an abortion, but she’s mature enough to potentially be forced to have one? That seems to be the mindset behind a Florida judge’s decision to block a pregnant and parentless 16-year-old from obtaining an abortion. The child was ten weeks at the time.

On Aug. 10, Circuit Judge Jennifer Frydrychowicz made an appealing decision that the teen was not “sufficiently mature to decide whether to terminate her pregnancy,” NBC News reports.

Prior to Frydrychowicz’s decision, three judges: Judges Harvey Jay, Rachel Nerdy and Scott Makar initially announced their ruling, saying the child “had not established by clear and convincing evidence that she was sufficiently mature to decide whether to terminate her pregnancy.” They went on saying, “Having reviewed the record, we affirm the trial court’s decision under the deferential standard of appellate review set out (in the consent law).”

Makar called for the ruling to be brought back to Frydrychowicz, who made the final decision.
