According to NBC Miami, Elaine Angene Escoe was last seen in Palm Beach County on June 3rd, just two days before her court appearance on federal fraud charges. She never showed up, and now authorities are trying to track her down.
According to federal investigators, Escoe played a central role in a massive COVID relief scam. Between 2020 and 2021, she and her crew allegedly submitted more than 90 fake applications for various federal aid programs. These included PPP, EIDL, RRF, and SVOG.
The scheme raked in more than $34 million, with Escoe and her associates accused of using fake payroll numbers and phony business data to score the funds. Once the money hit their accounts, they allegedly shuffled it through multiple shell companies, took out large cash withdrawals, and passed around blank, signed checks.
Escoe, originally from Jamaica, also goes by “Annie” and “Annie Palmer.” She now faces serious charges, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and multiple counts of money laundering. The feds believe she could be somewhere in Jamaica, though they’ve been unable to pinpoint where.
