Floyd Mayweather Says He’ll Be “One Of The Best Trainers In The World” In IG Caption Inspired By His Late Uncle

As Floyd Mayweather continues to mourn the loss of his uncle, Roger Mayweather, the professional boxer posted a video training his nephew, 14, claiming he’ll be “one of the best trainers in the world.”

“As many of you know, I’ve had incredible trainers, which included my dad and uncle. Due to the recent passing of my Uncle Roger, I’ve felt inspired to help those around me the same way they have been there for me throughout my boxing career,” Mayweather wrote.

Roger trained Floyd and was a big reason for his success today. Unfortunately, he lost his life last month after being sick for quite some time battling complications from diabetes.

“In a time where we must distance ourselves from others, it has allowed me to reflect on how I want to make a difference in people lives and help them achieve their goals,” he continued. “A true trainer wants the best out of their fighter and pushes them to the best of their abilities.”

“I want to leave an impression on those around me and allow them to see their potential,” he added. “I am new at training, and so far, I’ve been working with people with no boxing experience; therefore, we are growing together. But I promise you, I will be one of the best trainers in the world.”

Roger was also a professional boxer from 1981 to 1999, winning major titles such as junior lightweight and junior welterweight, ESPN reports.

Floyd himself is an undefeated reigning champion in boxing, having participated in 50 fights, with 27 of those wins being by knock out.

“My uncle was one of the most important people in my life inside and outside of the ring. Roger was a great champion and one of the best trainers in boxing,” Floyd said in a statement following his uncle’s passing. “Unfortunately, his health was failing him for several years, and now he can finally rest in peace.”

Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before moving to Vegas to become a legendary boxer and trainer, Roger sure left an impact and legacy that lives on now that he’s gone.

“Roger meant the world to me, my father Floyd Sr., my uncle Jeff, our whole family, everyone in and around the Mayweather Boxing Gym and the entire boxing world. It is a terrible loss for all of us,” Floyd stated.
