Frank Ocean’s Visual Album “Endless” Reportedly Made “Blonde” An Independent Release…Finesse or Coincidence?

R&B singer Frank Ocean dropped what most would consider his sophomore album, Blonde, just days ago, marking possibly the most anticipated release of the year. However, prior to the release of Blonde, the singer released a visual album titled “Endless,” which we are now learning had extreme significance.

According to sources close to the “Nike” singer, “Endless” satisfied his contract terms with Def Jam Records, thus marking his final release with the label. In turn, “Blonde” is actually an independent release.

The album was released exclusively on the music streaming platform, #AppleMusic. Per #Forbes, the album is solely attributed to Ocean’s “Boys Don’t Cry” label. This notion is confirmed via Apple Music, as Ocean’s label is the only one listed in the credits.

Ocean previously voiced issues with Def Jam, stating that he “didn’t have a relationship” with the label back in 2011.

Def Jam CEO, Lucian Grainge, reportedly reacted to the move by halting any future “exclusive” releases on streaming platforms for all Def Jam artists.

Blonde is expected to debut at the number one spot on Billboard charts with a projected 300k in pure sales.

Neither party has made a direct statement in regards to the situation. While Ocean is staying mum on the details of the move, one thing is for sure it is definitely a win for the Boys Dont Cry camp.
