George W. Bush’s Daughters Pen Open Letter To Malia & Sasha Obama

In just a few days, the Obama family will return to civilian life. After spending 8 years in the White House, life outside of D.C. will be quite an adjustment. President George W. Bush’s twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna, know the feeling all too well, that’s why they’re offering some advice.

In their open letter published by TIME Magazine, Barbara and Jenna recall meeting the young First Daughters and showing them around their new home.”We have watched you grow from girls to impressive young women with grace and ease,” the twins write.

Barbara Bush is currently the CEO and co-founder of Global Health Corps while her sister, Jenna Bush Hager, is a correspondent for the TODAY Show.

In their open letter, the Bush sisters congratulated Malia and Sasha on everything they’ve accomplished during their 8 years in the White House and assure them that life after their father’s presidency won’t be so bad.  “You have so much to look forward to. You will be writing the story of your lives, beyond the shadow of your famous parents, yet you will always carry with you the experiences of the past eight years.”

And a final piece of advice from the Bush sisters: Live it up!

“Enjoy college. As most of the world knows, we did. And you won’t have the weight of the world on your young shoulders anymore. Explore your passions. Learn who you are. Make mistakes—you are allowed to. Continue to surround yourself with loyal friends who know you, adore you and will fiercely protect you. Take all that you have seen, the people you have met, the lessons you have learned, and let that help guide you in making positive change. We have no doubt you will.”
