Young Thug’s recent courtroom win has triggered pushback from Georgia prosecutors, who are now escalating the dispute to the Court of Appeals.
The state formally submitted its challenge after a Fulton County judge ruled that the rapper should regain property seized in connection with the YSL RICO case. The contested property includes $150,000 in cash, several luxury automobiles, and an assortment of expensive jewelry.
Judge Paige Reese Whitaker decided in late August that prosecutors had failed to meet critical deadlines to present their case.
“I think that the court has no option under the case law and under the statute but to grant this dismissal, so the dismissal is granted,” she explained during her ruling, as reported by Billboard.
Not everyone agrees with the judge’s interpretation. Deputy District Attorney Jeff DiSantis expressed sharp criticism of the outcome, telling Fox 5, “We are perplexed that Judge Whitaker dismissed the case based on a timeline requested by defense counsel and a date the court set for trial. We are evaluating the case now for possible appeal, considering that strange procedural history.”
The timing of the appeal adds another layer of pressure for Thug, who is simultaneously preparing to return to music.
He announced that his next album, “UY Scuti,” will be released this Friday. The record will be his first full-length project since being released from jail, marking a major moment for both his career and personal life.
