Georgia election officials call for Donald Trump and Republicans to “stop inciting acts of violence’ as Trump continues to claim voter fraud.
On Tuesday, a Georgia election official condemned threats of physical violence and intimidation made against election workers and officials, who are asking Trump to denounce the poor behavior, CNN reports. “It’s all gone too far,” said Gabriel Sterling, the voting systems implementation manager for the Georgia secretary of state’s office said during a Tuesday news conference.
During his speech, Sterling detailed an incident involving a video of a Dominion Voting Machines contractor in Gwinnett County that was posted online with claims of vote manipulation, CNN reports. Once the video had gone viral, the man was accused of treason, and he later found a noose outside of his house. The outlet reports that his family has also been receiving death threats.
“You need to step up and say this … stop inspiring people to commit potential acts of violence,” Sterling said, addressing Trump. “Someone’s going to get hurt, someone’s going to get shot, someone’s going to get killed, and it’s not right.” He added, “Be the bigger man here and stop — step in. ”Tell your supporters, don’t be violent, don’t intimidate. All that’s wrong, it’s un-American.”
Tim Murtaugh, Trump’s campaign communications director, said, “the campaign is focused on ensuring that all legal votes are counted and all illegal votes are not. No one should engage in threats or violence, and if that has happened, we condemn that fully.”
For some reason, Trump just won’t let the election go. Since his loss to President-elect Joe Biden, he’s been falsely claiming that voter fraught took place and requesting that key states, like Georgia, do a vote recount. Biden won the state with more than 12,000 votes.
