Grammy Nominations Are In: Lizzo Leads the Pack With 8 Nods, Nipsey Hussle Earns Three Posthumous Nominations

The Grammy Award nominations were announced this morning, and some are shining with their nominations while other music stars are feeling the shade of their Grammy snubs.

Lizzo leads the nominees for the 62nd annual Grammy Awards, with a total of eight nominations, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X follow behind her with six nominations each.

Lizzo’s hit song “Truth Hurts” is up for the Grammy Award for best song and record, along with best pop solo performance. In addition, her “Cuz I Love You (Deluxe)” is up for best album and best urban contemporary album. Lizzo is also in the running for best R&B performance for “Exactly How I Feel,” featuring Gucci Mane and best traditional R&B performance for “Jerome.”

Lil Nas X and Billie Eilish will compete with Lizzo in the best new artist category, along with record of the year for (the record-breaking “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, and the infectious “Bad Guy” respectively) and album of the year (“7” and “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”, respectively). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Ariana Grande follows behind those artists with 5 nominations.

Meanwhile, fans of Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga are crying foul. Swift only scored one nomination in the big four categories, her song “Lover” was nominated for Song of the Year, while her album of the same name, was completely snubbed in the Album and Record of the Year categories. She and Lady Gaga tied for a mere three nods apiece. Gaga’s “A Star is Born” soundtrack wasn’t eligible at  last year’s awards.

In another soundtrack shocker, Beyoncé was completely shut out of the major categories for both her “Homecoming” live album and “The Lion King: The Gift,” although ’The Gift’ received three other nominations and ’Homecoming’ was nominated in the Best Music Film category.

H.E.R., who is already a two-time Grammy winner, is proving to be a Recording Academy fave, picking up her second consecutive Album of the Year nomination in just two years. And her Record and Song of the Year nominations for “Hard Place” put her in a class by herself.

Nipsey Hussle received three posthumous nominations, including Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, for “Racks in the Middle” and Best Rap/Sung Performance for “Higher” with DJ Khaled and John Legend.

The awards will be handed out Sunday, Jan. 26, live on CBS from Los Angeles’ Staples Center. Alicia Keys is returning as host.
