Just days after a video of a woman harassing and blocking a man from entering his own apartment complex went viral, she was fired from her job.
Now, the woman that the internet has deemed “#HallwayHillary” is speaking out. According to her, she would do it all again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“When I noticed an individual that I did not know here, my only thought was to follow directions I had been given by condo association board members repeatedly; and that’s to never allow access to anyone that you don’t know,” Hillary Thornton told Fox 2. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to Thornton, D’Arreion Toles attempted to come into the apartments while she attempted to leave out of the door.
“I simply asked if he lived there because the direction from the association is … that if you don’t know the person, you don’t let them in,” she said.
“It’s the only indicator any resident has that they live in the building and he wouldn’t answer me,” she said. “He would not show me one.”
Although video from Toles showing the encounter seems to showcase a case of profiling, Thornton says that being called a racist hurts her feelings.
“That’s false and heartbreaking,” she said. “Those are words that cut deep.”
Ultimately, Thornton’s behavior in the video has garnered national attention. Some people believe that she was fearful of Toles possibly being a robber. Meanwhile, others argue that if she thought he was a criminal why would she lock herself in an elevator with him and follow him.
