How to Heal: The Road to Recovery – blogged by: @TheBuzzWithB

No matter how many ducks you have lined up in the row, there is no way to avoid the trials and tribulations of life. At some point, something or someone will affect you so deeply, you may question everything you ever knew. It’s a dark and lonely place to be in, and it can seem as if that “light at the end of the tunnel” doesn’t exist for you. I’ve been there and it is the most terrifying state of mind to have to endure, but I overcame it and it is possible for you too.

For those of you who need some guidance, I hope these words find you well.

CRY IT OUT
Stop trying to be so strong. Bawl your freaking eyes out without any self-shame or self-judging. You will be surprised how much releasing all of that pent up emotion through tears will bring you so much relief and clarity.

TAKE A BREAK
Give yourself some time to detox. Take a day off work. Delete your social media apps for a few days. Allow your children to stay with a person you trust for a few hours or even overnight. You’re going through something that requires stillness and peace to gain healing. Make sure you give yourself that luxury.

BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF
Healing does not happen overnight. It may take weeks. It may take months or even years. You have to be patient with yourself. Don’t beat yourself up over the process and don’t allow others to make you feel as if you need to “just get over it” if you are indeed making a legitimate effort to move forward. Everyone heals at a different pace.

TALK TO SOMEONE YOU TRUST
A close friend, co-worker, family member, or religious advisor – someone you know has your best interest at heart and will listen to you without judgment. Be honest and open when speaking with them. Having a listening ear to absorb some of your worries will make you feel less weighed down by your struggle.

SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP
As much as talking to a personal confidant can help, sometimes you need to take it a step further and seek help from someone who is trained to handle your specific needs. Speaking with a therapist is not just for “crazy” people. It can simply be an outlet to talk to someone who can give perspective on your issues without any preconceived notions. It’s good to hear from someone who has a transparent view.

KEEP A JOURNAL
Write down how you are feeling. You can even channel your emotions into poems, songs, or stories. Writing things down will help you visually keep track of your feelings and help you feel more in control of your thoughts.

BE PERSISTENT IN PRAYER
Whatever you belief is, connect with that higher power and pray constantly. Pray over every little worry and need, and be specific. Keep praying over and over. My personal suggestion would be Jesus. He’s helped me through some very emotionally trying times and He can do the same for you. Prayer changes things.

BELIEVE IT WILL GET BETTER
It is so difficult to believe things will ever change when you’re going through such discord in your life. It takes so much energy to keep faith in better days… but it’s essential. Find something that gives you even the slightest bit to look forward to. Even if it is only a teeny tiny spec of hope, hold on to that spec and keep fighting. The longer you fight, the more that spec of hope will grow into something powerful.

Healing is not easy. It’s a long and difficult road and at times you will become so weary you will want to give up. Don’t! Trouble doesn’t last always. Night ALWAYS turns into day. There is hope for you!
