Ice Spice has revealed how guidance from Taylor Swift played a key role in helping her navigate challenges in her music career.
In an interview with Nylon, the Bronx-born rapper spoke openly about facing criticism for her songwriting and finding reassurance through Swift’s mentorship.
“The thing about Taylor is that she keeps it so real,” Ice Spice said. “One of the biggest things that I always think about that Taylor said is, ‘As long as you keep making music, everything’s going to be fine.’” She explained that the advice has stayed with her through periods of doubt and creative frustration, helping her overcome obstacles such as writer’s block and insecurity about her lyrics.
“Whenever I’m feeling doubtful or not as confident, having writer’s block—no matter what it is—things like that really, really stand out to me,” she added. “She said that to me a few years ago, and it still stood with me.”
Their connection began when Swift personally reached out to Ice Spice for a remix. The song quickly amassed over five million streams in its first weekend, setting new records for both artists.
Since the release of her breakout single “Munch (Feelin’ U)” in August 2022, Ice Spice has scored four Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Despite this success, she has encountered repeated criticism questioning her abilities as a lyricist.
“People were trying to say that I’m not a lyricist, and I just kind of went in with the attitude of, ‘Yeah, they’re right. I’m not.’ But it’s just not true,” she said. “I didn’t really feel like having to prove that. But I figured I’d let you know that I definitely knew I was [a lyricist]. The whole time.”
Ice Spice credited Swift’s support with helping her stay grounded and focused on her music.
With this mentorship, Ice Spice continues to grow as an artist, maintaining her presence on the charts while refining her craft.
