More Than a Dozen Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok Influencers Flown Out by Amazon to Luxurious Resort in Bid for Social Media Clout

What a time to be a social media influencer.

Last month, Amazon flew out several Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok influencers to Todos Santos, Mexico, where they were treated to sunset dinners and spa sessions.

Apparently, it’s become a thing that influencers are becoming accustomed to. Many companies are trying to capitalize on influencers’ online fame.

The online retailing giant took over the opulent Padadero and dubbed the resort as “Amazon Resort.” The trip was for members of Amazon’s influencer program, a program that was started five years ago and allows creators to earn money by recommending Amazon products on their social media accounts.

This isn’t the first of its kind either, the company held prior events this year in both New York and Los Angeles, CNBC reported.

Amazon has chosen to join the influencer marketing industry, which has skyrocketed from a roughly $1.7 billion market in 2016 to an estimated $13.8 billion last year, a study conducted by Influencer Market Hub confirmed.

It’s expected to keep growing with a prediction of $16.4 billion this year. The prediction reflects the number of money companies is spending on this growing popular marketing phenomenon.

Influencers are seen as key players among companies who feel they can help unlock access to a specific audience demographics, which is a result of their typical rabid and engaged fan bases. And now, many social media stars are commanding lucrative endorsement deals from major brands.

Hence why they are getting wined, dined, and pampered.

In addition to the lavish meals and spa offerings during Amazon’s recent resort trip, the company held a workshop to help creators establish their own Amazon storefront, which will be a dedicated page where they can post shoppable videos and selections of their favorite products to increase purchases and earn commissions.

Amazon pays out a commission to influencers whenever a customer purchases an item that they recommended. The Payouts vary depending on the product however, influencers stand to earn the most if they promote titles from Amazon Games and luxury beauty items, which typically earn a commission of 20% and 10%, respectively.

“Creators today really are decentralized media companies,” said Ryan Detert, CEO of influencer marketing start-up influential. “These channels that exist on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, you name it. They can drive traffic to wherever they want their audience to go.”
