It Might NOT Just Be PMS, Ladies

Ladies, around that time of the month do you feel like you just want to kill, inflict pain or just HULKSMASH whoever looks in your direction? Well darling, you are NOT the only one. I thought that I had just a severe case of PMS, no more no less. I was angry days leading up to my menstrual cycle and a few days into my cycle. I was just MAD, I hated EVERYONE, I wanted to rip peoples heads off and use them as bowling balls. *sigh*

Every month it started to get worse, I finally went to the doctor (lowkey I thought I might hurt someone seriously then end up being Crazy Eyes’ Dandelion). I described my symptoms and my doctor told me that “Hey, Vixen, that is NOT normal. You have PMDD.”

PMDD AKA Premenstrual dysphoric disorder affects up to 8% of women.

According to MayoClinic.com

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a severe, sometimes disabling extension of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Although regular PMS and PMDD both have physical and emotional symptoms, PMDD causes extreme mood shifts that can disrupt your work and damage your relationships.

In both PMDD and PMS, symptoms usually begin seven to 10 days before your period starts and continue for the first few days that you have your period. Both PMDD and PMS may also cause bloating, breast tenderness, fatigue, and changes in sleep and eating habits. In PMDD, however, at least one of these emotional and behavioral symptoms stands out:

Sadness or hopelessness
Anxiety or tension
Extreme moodiness
Marked irritability or anger

When it’s “that time of the month” I notice myself getting angrier, saying some very mean, spiteful, hateful sh*t. Truthfully, I don’t give a flying f**k about it. Oh well, get the hell over it, is how I feel.

Trust me if you feel this way you are not alone do a search on twitter PMDD is REAL. It has destroyed relationships. I fight with my other half, over I don’t even know what and I don’t care, I’m just mad and guess the f**k what you’re going to hear my mouth until I stop running it. I’ma chase you down in every room I’m in and you WILL hear me before I slap you in your cotdamn face. A**HOLE

*sigh*

According to PubMedHealth you must have…

Five or more of the following symptoms must be present to diagnose PMDD, including one mood-related symptom: (I’m going to highlight my symptoms)

  1. No interest in daily activities and relationships
  2. Fatigue or low energy
  3. Feeling of sadness or hopelessness, possible suicidal thoughts
  4. Feelings of tension or anxiety
  5. Feeling out of control
  6. Food cravings or binge eating
  7. Mood swings with periods of crying
  8. Panic attacks
  9. Irritability or anger that affects other people
  10. Physical symptoms, such as bloating, breast tenderness, headaches, and joint or muscle pain
  11. Problems sleeping
  12. Trouble concentrating

Soooo yeah I have like EVERY one of these symptoms. I will admit I am NOT a nice person to be around when I’m on my menstrual cycle. I go for the jugular, say some f***ed up sh*t and don’t even think twice about it. Till after the 3rd day of my period.

I want to let you know ladies that there IS hope out there. There are medications that can help taper the feelings of murder and mayhem then tears because of the baby diaper commercial. Antidepressants CAN be helpful. I will say that me taking them before it’s that time of the month does decrease SOME of my kill, maim, destroy feelings, but it doesn’t eliminate them completely. Check with your doctor if you have the above issues and know that you aren’t alone.

PMDD is VERY real and it can be unbearable to live with, but understand it doesn’t have to take full blown control over your life for 7-11 days.
