It’s Time to Take Inventory: Analyzing Your Goals and Vision Boards Halfway Through 2014 By: @MeaganElyce

We are almost halfway through 2014 and it’s time to assess and reassess the goals and visions that we set for ourselves at the beginning of the year. Everyone knows that a goal without a plan is just a wish, and you can’t get anything accomplished sitting around wishing and waiting for things to take place in your life; that requires ACTION! I’m not trying to get too Iyanla: Fix My Life on you but some of us need a reminder or swift kick in the ass to help us get moving and stay on track.

At the end of 2010, I went T.D. Jakes church, The Potter’s House for New Year’s Eve service and he had us do a simple exercise that really changed my life. He gave all of us a piece of paper and an envelope. He told us to write down a few things we wanted to accomplish in 2011 and he would send it back to us around April (about a quarter of the year in) so we could gage our progress. I wrote down three items that I wanted to accomplish:

  • Apply and get into graduate school
  • Be debt free
  • Restore a broken relationship with someone in my family

By the time I had gotten my paper back, I hadn’t even set out to do anything I had written down. I figured I had better get started so I started paying down some of my debt and getting my stuff together for my graduate school application. By the end of 2011, I was debt free, I was going to start graduate school in January 2012, and I had mended that broken relationship. I needed to be reminded of what I wanted to achieve, I needed to see it in front of me, and I needed to put a plan in place so that I could take action and execute that plan accordingly.

I’m a firm believer that when you put things out in the universe, God conspires to work those things out for your benefit. I’ve already started achieving some of the items that I put on my vision board for this year. I’ve started a new career, I’ve gotten my blog up and running and I’m blogging on a national platform, and I’m going to London this year to see my Dallas Cowboys play! I have my vision board hanging on my wall so every morning I wake up or every time I walk past it, I’m reminded of the things I want to accomplish and what I need to do to achieve them.

My Vision Board for 2014 (it’s okay to have material items; I want my Chanel bag boo!)

What are some of the goals you set for yourself in 2014? What are you doing to accomplish those goals? What have you already accomplished?  We want to know!!
