Jabari “Baby Uiie” Henley, the son of music executive and alleged gang leader Eugene “Big U” Henley, was shot and killed late Friday night in South Los Angeles.
Police responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 11 PM near the corner of 69th Street and Figueroa Street. When officers arrived, they found a 34-year-old Black man suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts from first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the victim approached a parked vehicle outside a smoke shop before being shot. The shooter fled and has yet to be identified. Officials have not confirmed whether the shooting was gang-related.
Disturbing footage from the aftermath shows police attempting life-saving measures on Jabari before covering his body with a tarp.
Music consultant and rapper Luce Cannon, currently locked up with Big U at the Metropolitan Detention Center, says he was the first to break the news to Big U.
“We’re heartbroken,” Luce told TMZ, adding that being behind bars only deepens the pain. He believes Jabari knew his shooter, but could not confirm more.
Big U, a known figure in the L.A. rap scene, rose to prominence managing artists like Kurupt and the late Nipsey Hussle. He’s also facing serious federal charges tied to racketeering, fraud, and extortion.
Jabari Henley is survived by his siblings, including Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Daiyan Henley, along with another brother and sister.
