Jackée Harry, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Reginae Carter And More To Star In All-Black “Pride And The Prejudice” Remake

Classic novel “The Pride and Prejudice” is getting a slightly new storyline and an all-Black cast, as it will be reimagined as a church-based drama in modern-day Georgia.

The new story, “The Pride and Prejudice: Atlanta,” was inspired by Jane Austen’s ”1813.” It be will be under Lifetime, and star several Atlanta actors including Jackee Harry, who will play the preacher’s wife Mrs. Bennet, the author of a self-help book on how to find the perfect husband. The network announced the news on Monday (Nov. 5), that Tiffany Hines, and Keshia Knight-Pulliam and Reginae Carter will join as cast members. 

The project will be led by Reginald Vel Johnson as Reverend Bennet, a pastor of a prominent Southern Baptist church. Mrs. Bennet is less than thrilled that all five of their daughters — Lizzie (Tiffany Hines), Jane (#RaneyBranch), Mary (#BrittneyLevel), Lydia (Reginae Carter) and Kitty (#AlexiaBailey) — are still single. When the very eligible Will Darcy (#JuanAntonio) arrives in town, Mrs. Bennet sets her sights on the handsome bachelor for daughter Lizzie, leading several adventures from the 19th-century novel, according to Entertainment Weekly. 

The film will be directed by Rhonda Baraka, and the script will be written by Tracy McMillan. Pride and Prejudice: Atlanta will be produced by Big Dreams Entertainment and Swirl Films, with Leslie Greif, Naomi Despres and Tracy McMillan serving as executive producers.
