Life looks a lot different for Jaden Ivey than it did just a few weeks ago. The 24-year-old guard, who was once a player for the Chicago Bulls, was recently caught on camera trading his basketball shoes for a megaphone on the street corner. In a video quickly making rounds on social media, Ivey was spotted standing at Toomer’s Corner in Auburn, Alabama, delivering a sermon to passersby.
The public display of faith comes on the heels of the Bulls’ decision to waive Ivey on March 30, 2026. The organization officially cited “conduct detrimental to the team” as the reason for the split. This move followed a series of controversial social media posts where Ivey took aim at Catholicism and made disparaging remarks regarding the LGBTQ community. While they remained relatively quiet on the specifics, reports suggest the locker room tension had become too much for the coaching staff and ownership.
They say come join us for Pride, for Pride Month to celebrate unrighteousness,” Ivey previously shared during an Instagram Live session that drew heavy scrutiny. “So how is it that one can’t speak righteousness?”
Despite the professional fallout, Ivey doesn’t seem to be backing down or retreating from the spotlight. In the Auburn footage, he can be seen quoting scripture and speaking to a small gathering, appearing fully committed to his new path. Ivey has defended his recent behavior by claiming he is merely “preaching about Jesus Christ,” though the delivery of that message is what ultimately cost him his spot on the roster.
As of now, Ivey’s NBA career is in a state of limbo. Whether another franchise is willing to take a chance on the embattled guard remains to be seen, but for the moment, Ivey seems more concerned with his spiritual mission than finding a new home in the league.
