Jaime Harrison Shatters Senate Fundraising Record With $57 Million Third Quarter

South Carolina Democrat Jaime Harrison smashed the record set for fundraising by a Senate candidate in the third quarter of this year.

Harrison pulled in a staggering $57 million in his bid to unseat GOP Senator Lindsay Graham.

The previous record of $38.1 million was set by Democrat Beto O’Rourke’s in the third quarter of 2018 during his unsuccessful bid for a Senate seat in Texas.

Harrison’s campaign said he received 1.5 million donations from July through September, averaging $37 a donation, reports Politico.

“This movement has beaten fundraising records, polling records, and expectations,” Harrison tweeted on Sunday.

Graham has trailed Harrison in both fundraising and spending throughout the campaign season. As of June 30, Graham had $15 million in the bank and has spent only $19 million on TV and digital advertising. Compare that to Harrison’s massive fundraising and a whopping $52 million spent on ads.

Graham has had to ask for financial help, asking Dean Hannity during an interview last month “I’m getting overwhelmed. Help me. They’re killing me money-wise. Help me. You did last week.”

Trailing Graham by a percentage point as recently as last month, the latest polls show the two candidates are now neck and neck in the race for the Senate.

The record-breaking fundraising announcement by Harrison comes one day before Graham begins confirmation hearings for Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Amy Coney Barrett. Graham will serve as the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee during the proceedings.
