John Stamos Says He Once Got Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Fired From ‘Full House’ [Video]

On Monday, John Stamos revealed that he initially fired Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen during the early stages of Full House.

During an interview on Josh Peck’s Good Guys podcast, the actor recalled the moment when the 11-month twins were having a rough day on set during season 1.

“[Dave] and I were changing the baby,” Stamos told Peck. “We’re carrying the baby downstairs, I think I was holding on to their armpits and Dave was holding her little feet. We take her into the kitchen and hosed her down, we put a fan on her, wrapped her up in paper towels. She was screaming.”

“Both of them, they wanted to be anywhere else but there, and so did I,” he added. “They were 11 months old, and God bless them. And they kept switching.”

The Olsen twins, who are now 36, were not prepared for prime time, Stamos recalled.

“I said, ‘This is not going to work, guys,’ and I screamed it 10 times,” he said. “I said, ‘Get rid of them, I can’t work like this.'”

Eventually, the Olsen sisters were welcomed back to the show after the producers briefly hired “two red-headed kids” who appeared to be less adorable than Mary-Kate and Ashley – “I’m sure their parents loved them and thought they were attractive,” Stamos joked.

“I said, ‘Bring the Olsens back, these kids are terrible!'” Stamos said. “It was a day or something, we tried the other kids, but it didn’t work.”
