Fans eager to witness the creative fusion between Kendrick Lamar and the “South Park” team will have to hold on a bit longer. The long-anticipated live-action comedy from Lamar, Trey Parker, and Matt Stone has officially been postponed with no new release date in sight.
The film, first announced back in 2022, has already endured multiple delays. Originally scheduled for a July 2025 release and later moved to March 2026, it has now been shelved indefinitely.
“It’s true, we’re moving (again). We’re working hard at finishing the movie,” read a joint statement from Parker and Stone’s Park County studio and Lamar’s pgLang, as reported by Variety.
Comedian Vernon Chatman is behind the script, with Lamar, Dave Free, Parker, and Stone all signed on as producers. Though plot details remain tightly under wraps, the pairing of Lamar’s creative vision with the irreverent minds behind “South Park” had fans hyped from day one.
In the meantime, Lamar’s had a headline-grabbing year. He earned nine Grammy nominations for his 2024 album “GNX” and grabbed the world’s attention during his Super Bowl LIX performance, where he delivered “Not Like Us” with surgical precision.
Many of the film’s details have remaind under wraps and now, its future hangs in the balance.
