A tragic shooting shattered the calm at Kentucky State University on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and another fighting for their life as the HBCU community tries to make sense of the violence.
Police in Frankfort say the call came in around mid-afternoon when reports of gunfire hit the south side of campus. Officers moved in fast, locked down the grounds, and confirmed a suspect was taken into custody. One victim died at the scene. The second was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Classes were halted, dorms were sealed, and students were told to shelter where they stood.
KSU, a small but mighty HBCU, was heading into finals week. Governor Andy Beshear confirmed the incident and pleaded for prayers.
We are aware of a reported shooting at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. At this time, we are aware of some injuries. We will share more information as available. Law enforcement are on scene, and a suspect has been arrested. Let’s pray for all those affected,” he wrote on Twitter.
