Lately, Kevin Gates has been vulnerable and expressing himself more about his mental health and past trauma. Just recently, the Louisiana rapper got a little more candid about his mental state.
During the Big Facts podcast, Kevin opened up to the hosts about making plans to take his own life back in December 2020.
āIāma say something on this interview that Iāve never said before. December 10th through the 12th was the hardest for me [last] year. I disabled my Instagram ā¦ See, I donāt do the āMan, Iām ābout to kill myself!ā I donāt want no attention. I was going the way of the samurai. Just smash myself because I was to the point I aināt wanna live no more.ā
Kevin explained the reasoning behind the suicidal thought, chalking it up to his past emotional trauma and not feeling ācelebratedā at home.
āI wasnāt happy. As men, when you are a provider and you not feeling like you being celebrated in the proper manner, you feel like you only being tolerated ā¦ when I was in the streets, I used to hate going home because I feel like I wasnāt welcome there. Yāall act like Iām just doing what Iām supposed to be doing.ā
Kevin later went on to detail the day he would commit the scary act. The rapper wrote a farewell note then hit the gym for one last workout. As he was leaving, Kevin bumped into a fan who made him have a change of heart.
The fan thanked Kevin for his music and said, āyour music done kept me from committing suicide so many times.ā Kevin then shared with the fan how he was on his way to committing suicide. However, the fan cried and hugged Kevin and reminded him of his impact.
āYou know what that dude do? He cried, and he grabbed me, and he said, āIf you do that, so many people gonna take their own life ācause you all we got.ā This show you how God work through people. I said, āYou know what? I guess Iāll stick around a while.āā
