Kid Cudi Breaks Silence on Role in Diddy Trial, “I Hated Every Minute of It”

Diddy’s recent federal trial came to an end last month after nearly two months of testimony from multiple witnesses.

The music mogul was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering but convicted of transportation for prostitution, a charge that carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Among the witnesses called to testify was Kid Cudi, who is now speaking openly about what it was like to take the stand.

During an appearance on Call Her Daddy, host Alex Cooper asked Cudi how he felt about going into the situation. Cudi recalled, “I was calm. At first, when they asked me, I said no. They asked again, and I still said no. Then I got subpoenaed, and I was like, ‘Man, no.’ I started thinking about what I was even going to wear. I hated every minute of it. I did not want to do it.”

The rapper said his perspective changed once he sat in the witness chair. “When I was up there, I reminded myself that I was there to support Cassie. Cassie is my friend. I love her, and I want to see her do well. I’ve always wanted to see her thrive, be happy, and succeed because I know she was living a nightmare. I just wanted to be there for her. That’s what gave me peace when I sat down in that chair. It went from thinking, ‘I don’t want to do this,’ to knowing, ‘I have to hold her down and look out for her.’”

He had echoed that same sentiment during an interview with CBS Mornings, saying, “I knew I was helping Cassie. I just wanted to be there and help her out. I know I did the right thing, so that’s all that matters.”

While many fans voiced support, Cudi acknowledged that some people criticized him for taking the stand.

“I had a lot of people that supported me, but there were a few that had some opinions about it,” he said. “It was interesting because I’m not a street dude. I don’t live by a code. I guess because I’m a rapper people assumed that about me, but my music has never been about that and I have never pretended it was.”

For Cudi, the experience was far from easy, but the reason he went through with it was  loyalty to a friend.
