Ahead of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame ceremony, Kiyan released a touching video with The Players’ Tribune, expressing his immense adoration and gratitude to his father.
“You’ve been a Hall-of-Famer to me my whole life,” Kiyan said. “All that hard work, every day, you grinding, nobody seeing you work as hard as you do, everybody taking you for granted—it doesn’t go unnoticed. I’ve seen everything.”
Kiyan, 18, recently wrapped his high school career and will soon suit up for Syracuse, where his father led the program to a national title in 2003. For Kiyan, that legacy is personal.
“I know I’m in good hands because you’re going to be right by my side,” he continued. “Seeing you getting inducted into the Hall of Fame means everything to me. I appreciate you for everything. So keep going, and getting better. Love you, Pops.”
Carmelo spent seven seasons with the New York Knicks, and his induction solidifies the legacy he built both in New York and across the league. Now, the torch is officially being passed.
