While speaking with Baller Alert ahead of the premiere of her Tubi series “Always, Lady London,” the rapper and songwriter opened up about his September 2024 suicide, which shocked the New York hip-hop community. According to London, she and her family tried to protect the manner in which Chino XL passed away due to negative headlines.
“It’s so crazy because my uncle’s untimely passing put things in perspective for me. A lot of it, we were trying to protect the nature of his passing for a long time from the media,” she said. “But as a musician, I understand what he battled with day in and day out. I try to keep conscious not to let it overcome me. Not to let it kinda bring forth defeat or dismay. To understand that it’s just craftsmanship. It’s just artistry. It’s just supposed to be fun and keeping that at the forefront of my mind so I’m not too discouraged when things don’t go the way I intended for them to.”
In her docuseries, London spoke in depth about her uncle, sharing memories of their time together and voicing her feelings about Chino XL not reaching the heights he deserved during his career. Now, with her forthcoming album “To Whom It May Concern” on the horizon, the rising rap powerhouse plans to honor him every step of the way.
“I think I am pursuing it because I don’t think he ever made it to the pinnacle he intended to. So I plan on upholding his legacy by following through on what I intended to do from the beginning,” she stated. “Because his love for it was so intense, I want to make sure that he knows that it didn’t go in vain and his bloodline continues.”
“Always, Lady London” premieres October 10th exclusively on Tubi.
