A software glitch is causing thousands of luxury SUVs to be returned to the dealership lot as Lamborghini works to address a rearview camera issue that could compromise driver safety.
Lamborghini has issued a recall for 10,554 SUVs after discovering a software problem that may cause the rearview camera to deactivate or fail to display properly. The issue was disclosed in a December 21 recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which said the vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard requirements for rear visibility.
The recall affects certain 2019 through 2024 Lamborghini Urus SUVs. The Urus first hit the global market in 2018, marking Lamborghini’s official entry into the high-performance luxury SUV space. Built to combine supercar speed with everyday utility, the Urus quickly became one of the brand’s best-selling models worldwide, making the scope of this recall notable for the automaker.
According to NHTSA officials, a malfunctioning rearview camera can reduce a driver’s ability to see obstacles behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash, especially during low-speed maneuvers or parking.
Lamborghini says repairs are straightforward. Owners can bring their vehicles to an authorized dealership, where technicians will update the parking assist software at no cost. Notification letters outlining the safety risk are scheduled to be mailed on Feb. 9, with a follow-up letter sent once a final remedy is fully available.
Owners with questions can contact Lamborghini customer service at 1-866-681-6276. The company’s internal reference number for the recall is L636-R.01.26.
