Las Vegas Man Shoots and Kills Son Because He Was Gay

A Las Vegas father took his own son’s life on Thursday because he was gay.

According to NBC 3 Las Vegas, Wendell Melton shot and killed his 14-year-old son, Giovanni, after an argument they had over Giovanni’s sexual orientation.

Giovanni’s foster mother, Sonja Jones, said him being homosexual bothered his father.

“He hated the fact that his son was gay. I’m sure that inside of his mind, he would rather have a dead son than a gay son,” Jones said.

Jones said Giovanni had endured several years of domestic abuse physically and mentally from his father.

Right before shooting the teen, his father threatened him. The 53-year-old, former pilot then chose one of the six guns in he kept in his home and fatally shot him.

Apparently this isn’t the first time that there has been chaos within the Melton family. According to Las Vegas Now, there was a lengthy custody battle for Giovanni and his sibling. There are also accounts of Melton threatening the family with guns.

“I hope they throw the book at him. I hope he never sees the light of day,” said Jones. “I hope every day when he looks in the mirror, he sees his son’s face.”
