Lebron James Talks Wanting To Own An NBA Team, Michael Jordan, & Super Teams

Cleveland Superstar #LebronJames is just months off of his most recent #NBA Championship. Now with a brand new contract under his belt, the basketball player turned business mogul is discussing his future endeavors and giving his take on a few popular subjects.

In a conversation with Jesse Williams’ Open Run Podcast, James detailed what his ideal future would look like once he sits down the ball for good. “I would love to continue to give my knowledge to the game. I would love to be a part of a franchise — if not at the top. … My dream is to actually own a team. I don’t need to [be] fully hands-on. If I’m fortunate enough to own a team, then I’m going to hire the best GM and president that I can. But I feel like I got a good eye for not only talent, because we all see a lot of talent, but the things that make the talent. The chemistry, what type of guy he is, his work ethic, his passion, the basketball I.Q. side of things. Because talent only goes so far.”

James also touched on the Michael Jordan, crediting Jordan as one of his biggest inspirations but also giving his take on Jordan’s teammates not getting enough credit. “I don’t think Michael ever played a game 7 in the Finals and people will say he was able to close it out early and they act like he just did it all on his own,” LeBron said. “They forget things like the shot by Paxson on the left wing.”

During the podcast, James also spoke on the new “Super Team” craze, specifically in regards to #GoldenState with their recent addition of #KevinDurant. “You look at Fortune 500 companies and you look at great CEOs, they don’t go hire a CFO that’s 50th on the chain,” James said. “They go hire the No. 1 guy. They go hire the No. 1 guy. It’s like they all go hire the best guys because, listen, they know those guys are going to help them be successful. It’s different how it’s portrayed in our sport, which is fine, because I love the competition.”
