Lil Baby Opens Up About Being a Role Model and Paris Incident

Lil Baby is having a hell of a year. And his latest achievement is gracing the cover of the upcoming Billboard 2021 R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players issue. During his interview with the outlet, he spoke on his legacy, the Paris incident, and being a role model.

“Everything I’m doing is really for my kids,” he said. Baby, real name Dominique Armani Jones, is father to sons Jason, 5, and Loyal, 2.

“I want more kids than I got because once you get older, you start to look at life differently,” he continues. “Where I come from, I’m the only one, so I have to build the generation up and keep the family going. I need more children to continue the legacy.”

The Atlanta rapper has also become known for his acts of charity and interest in social justice for his music. In the wake of the murder of George Floyd by policed officers, Baby released the socially conscious record “The Bigger Picture.” Following the song’s release, he was even able to join Floyd’s family at the White House.

“My life feels like a responsibility,” he said during the interview. “I’m not even trying to be no role model, honestly. [But] now that I know that I am, I try to carry myself differently because I got people watching. I don’t even be doing what I really want to do. I do what I gotta do now.”

He also touched on getting arrested while in Paris with NBA star James Harden for Fashion Week. Lil Baby was arrested for marijuana possession, but fortunately, he was released later the same day.

The whole Paris experience let me know I got to get bigger overseas,” Baby says of the incident. “Not saying to not go to jail for breaking the law, but for the police to know who I am.”

Despite not being recognized by the authorities, he pulled crowds of 14,000 plus while performing in Europe.

The issue hits newsstands on August 7.
