Louisiana Man Sentenced to 45 Years in Prison For Targeting and Attempting to Kill Gay Men He Met ‘As Dahmer Had Done’

The U.S. Department of Justice said that a Louisiana man who admitted guilt in a kidnapping case and attempted to kill and dismember a gay man he met on a dating app would serve 45 years in federal prison.

An official statement from the DOJ reported that 21-year-old Chance Seneca was involved in a “months-long scheme” to find and murder LGBTQ people.
In 2020, Seneca began searching for a male target to kill and dismember using the LGBTQ dating app Grindr.
According to the statement, Seneca met up with the victim, who had been identified as “H.W.,” took him to an isolated house, put him in handcuffs, then threatened him with a gun. Using several methods, Seneca attempted to murder H.W. and dismembered him. After he believed H.W. was dead, he left. However, the man survived.
Once apprehended, Seneca confessed to police that he fantasized about killing and eating gay men, similar to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
He told police that he didn’t plan on stopping unless he was captured or killed.

“This fascination led him to spend months designing a murder-kidnapping scheme that mirrored the murders of gay men committed by the notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer,” the DOJ’s statement says. It continues, “Seneca had also intended to eat and preserve the bodies of his victims, as Dahmer had done.”

Following his near-death experience, H.W. told KATC3 he was “staying strong” and wasn’t “going to let this incident get to [him].”

He explained, “Part [of what] I remember is that I reached over to grab something out of my bag. That’s when I felt a cord wrap around my throat, and he started pulling me backward.”

Once in the hospital, the victim found scars on his wrist from where Seneca attempted to dismember him.

Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division said, “The facts of this case are truly shocking, and the defendant’s decision to specifically target gay men is a disturbing reminder of the unique prejudices and dangers facing the LGBTQ+ community today.”

Seneca still faces a charge of attempted second-degree murder in state court even though his federal case has been closed.
